Adapted from Jeremiah 2
5 Forgive us for the faults our ancestors found in You, that they strayed so far from You, and followed worthless idols.
[...]
7 You brought them and us into a fertile land, to eat its fruit and rich produce. But we defiled it and made Your inheritance detestable.
8 Our leaders rebelled against You, following worthless idols.
9 Therefore You've brought charges against us and against our children’s children.
[...]
11 Because we exchanged our glorious God for worthless idols.
[...]
13 We have committed two sins: we have forsaken You, the spring of living water,
and have dug our own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
[...]
19 Our wickedness has punished us, our backsliding has rebuked us. We realize how evil and bitter it is for us, when we forsake the Lord our God, and have no awe of You.
[...]
25 We have loved foreign gods, and gone after them.
[...]
27 We have turned our backs to You.
[...]
29 We have rebelled against You.
Adapted from Nehemiah 1
5 Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments.
6 Let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer we are praying before You day and night for ourselves and our families... We confess the sins we ourselves, our families, and our ancestors have committed against You.
7 We have acted very wickedly toward You. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws You gave us.
[...]
10 We are Your servants and Your people, whom You redeemed by Your great strength and Your mighty hand.
11 Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this Your servant and to the prayer of Your servants who delight in revering Your name.
We confess all this sin, and we ask for Your forgiveness.
