Keep us on the narrow path
Lord, You said that we're to enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it, but small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matt 7:13-14). Take us off the broad path and transfer us to the narrow road. Let us be among the few who find it.
Cut out everything in our lives that keeps us from the narrow path.
We are not of this world
We know that friendship with the world is enmity with God, help us not to be Your enemies by befriending this world (James 4:4). We know that the world will hate us because it hated You first (John 15:18). We know that if we belonged to the world, it would love us as its own, but Your Word says that we do not belong to the world, but that You have have chosen us out of the world (John 15:19).
That is why the world will hate us, because as Your servants we cannot be greater than You according to Your Word that a servant is not greater than his master. You have warned us that if they persecuted You, they will persecute us also (John 15:20). Help us to endure and run our race to the crown of life (Heb 12:1).
Cut out everything in our lives that constitutes friendship with the world.
Make us holy
As You commanded help us to be holy as You are Holy (1 Peter 1:16, Lev 19:2 / 11:44). Your Word has commanded us to make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy because without holiness no one will see the Lord. Help us to be holy that we do not miss heaven for anything unholy.
For what will it profit us to gain the whole world, and lose our souls? What will we give in exchange for our soul (Mark 8:36-37)? Lord Jesus help us to cut out any gain that would cause us to lose our souls. Help us to chase nothing in this world harder than we chase You or harder than we chase salvation for our souls.
You said that whoever was ashamed of You and Your Words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man would also be ashamed when He came in the glory of His Father with the holy angels (Mark 8:38). Lord, help us never to be ashamed of You and Your Words.
Cut out everything in our lives that makes us unholy.
Help us to lose and deny ourselves for You
Lord Jesus, You said that whoever desired to save their life would lose it, but whoever lost their life for Your sake would find it (Matt 16:25). Help me to lose this life for Your sake. Help us to lose whatever we must lose for Your sake. Remove the desire to 'save' our lives in whatever way You meant.
You said that whoever wanted to follow after You, would have to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow You (Matt 16:24). Lord, help us to deny ourselves and to take up our crosses and to follow You. You said that whoever does not take their cross and follow You is not worthy of You. We want to be worthy of You, help us to take our crosses and follow You.
For we remain convinced and prepared that no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for You and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life (Mark 10:29).
As David prayed, we also pray: Let earth have nothing we desire besides You (Ps. 73:25).
We receive the power You promised
You said that these signs would follow them that believed, in Your Name they would cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, and that if they drank any deadly thing, it would not hurt them, that they would lay hands on the sick, and the sick would recover (Mark 16:17-18). We believe You Lord, and we ask that these signs will follow us, that in Your Name we will cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, and if we drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt us, that we will lay hands on the sick, and the sick will recover.
You said that those who believed in You, the works that You did, they would do also, and greater works than these they would do (John 14:12). Lord help us to do the works that You did and greater. Help us to be worthy and capable of doing them.
Lord, we pray to do what You said we would do. People touched Your garment and were healed and You promised we would do the same and more! They brought all their sick to You and begged You to let the sick just touch the edge of Your cloak, and all who touched it were healed (Matt 14:36). You promised we would do the same and more! Just like Paul who even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them (Acts 19:11). Your Word says that You healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons (Mark 1:34). You said we would do the same and more! Help us to do what You said!
Help us to pray without ceasing
Help us to continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving (Col 4:2). Help us to pray without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17). Help us to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer (Rom 12:12). Help us to pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication, to keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints (Eph 6:18). Help us to seek You and seek You with all our hearts that we may find You (Jer 29:13). Help us to seek You and Your strength, and to seek Your presence continually!
Crucify our flesh
Crucify our flesh with its passions and desires because Your Word says that those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires (Gal 5:24) , and we must belong to You. Any passions and desires that do not align with You, crucify them. We have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us. And the life we now live in the flesh we live by faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us (Gal 2:20).
Anything that is hindering You from living in us, crucify it. Your Word says that we are to die every day (1 Cor 15:31) - help us to die everyday so that You, Lord may live. We want to please You and Your Word says that those who are in the flesh cannot please God (Rom 8:8). Bring us out of this flesh that we may please You.
Destroy every idol in our lives
Lord Your Word says that the sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply (Ps 16:4). Forgive us for running after other gods of this world and turn us back to You. Forgive us for having other gods before You (Ex 3:5). Forgive us for making offerings to other gods and worshipping the works of human hands (Jer 1:16).
You said that no one could serve two masters, for either we would hate the one and love the other, or we would be devoted to the one and despise the other we cannot serve God and money (Matt 6:24). Destroy every idol in our lives just as You commanded us, we break down all altars against You, smash their sacred stones, cut down every Asherah pole and burn every idol in the fire of the Holy Ghost (Deut 7:5).
Cut out everything in our lives that is another master besides You.
In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we have prayed.
Amen.
